Our Story

Where the Water
Changes Lives

The Sailing Center is a Macon, Georgia-based program dedicated to teaching sailing to athletes with intellectual and physical disabilities through Special Olympics Georgia.

We sail on Lake Toboesofkee — right here in Macon — and our athletes have proven that the water is for everyone. Whether it's a first time on a boat or a trip to the World Games, every moment on the water matters.

Our program is built on the belief that sport builds confidence, community, and joy. We provide instruction, equipment, and the encouragement every sailor needs to reach their full potential.

Our Home
on the Water

Lake Toboesofkee sits just west of downtown Macon and serves as Georgia's center for Special Olympics sailing. It's where our athletes train, compete, and discover what they're capable of.

Every practice, every race, every high-five on the dock happens here. If you've never seen a sailor discover the water for the first time, come down to the lake. You'll want to come back.

Phil and James have trained together for over two decades. Their partnership is one of the most enduring in Georgia Special Olympics sailing history — racing Hobies on Lake Toboesofkee every season.
